Anni and Sani at Hakunti
Small painting for a big occasion. My sister Maria sent me a photo, taken by the sea back home in Finland. She asked if I’d paint the scenery for her 50th anniversary. Giving me a couple of months to transform that late autumn view for something brighter and to post it. Small, because it was sent to her by mail from Portugal.

2021. Acrylics on 30x40 cm canvas. Varnished and framed. Private collection.
There’s my niece Anni with her dog Sani, running somewhere outside the photo. Anni was wearing an eye-catching coat. The black and white pattern turned out to mirror the painted sky and I wanted that to stand out in detail. The grass in detail took time to create, so much so that I left the foreground white and we can imagine the winter out there. But then the clouds caused trouble, they were not dramatic enough. So, I decided to thicken the clouds layer by layer, for more depth in the scenery. Think it turned out alright in the end… I've been at Hakunti-beach in all seasons, that’s why the surreal feel, as the light and colors came out from my memories.
